The mass communication degree prepares students for careers in the mass media professions including electronic media production, journalism, news, public relations, advertising, management, information design and programming, and corporate communications.

According to the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in the media communication field “is projected to increase rapidly, but competition for jobs is expected to stay competitive. College graduates with related experience; a high level of creativity, and strong communication skills should have the best job opportunities. High earnings, substantial travel, and long hours, including evenings and weekends, are common.”

Median annual earnings, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, for entry-level positions in the mass communications vary according to the media, but the bulk of the positions start at $26,000. Naturally anyone gravitating to the sales and management areas of the media will expect salary’s beginning at $31,000.

Additional opportunities for trained media communication personnel are in the field of education (teaching, media director), self-employed in integrated marketing communications or production and corporate communication. These are excellent career fields.
